- The preferred version of Sun Java is the J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 update 15. If you are running a different version of Sun Java, your new computer came pre-installed with Windows Vista, or you are unsure which version of Java you have, then you will need to use this guide before you can use eCollege Vista.
Installing the Correct Java Version for eCollege Vista Please follow each of these steps in order: Uninstall all other versions from your computer | 1. Click on the Start menu | |  | | 2. Go to the Control Panel | |  | | 3. Select Add or Remove Programs. | |  |
4. Scroll down the list of programs until you find the J2SE (or Java) Runtime Environment. Remove any Java™ SE Runtime Environment 6 or J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0. If version 5.0 Update 14 is in the list, keep it. To remove any version, click to highlight it, then click the Remove button. 
Install the correct version of Java onto your computer
1. Download the Preferred Version of Sun Java. 2. Open the Java installer on your computer and follow the installation steps and instructions. Turn off automatic Java updates.
1. Log into Vista. This will cause the Java icon to appear in the windows system tray at the bottom right-hand corner of the screen. 2. Right click on the Java icon and select Open Control Panel from the list of options. 
3. Click the "Update" tab and uncheck the box labeled "Check for Updates Automatically."
4. A box will appear asking you to if you want to "check monthly" for updates. Select Never Check. 
5. Click OK. NEXT - - If you are using the newest version of Internet Explorer please use this guide to prepare your new browser for use with eCollege Vista.
