Humble Police Association Invests in Education Through Support of LSCS Foundation

The Humble Police Association recently presented Lone Star College Foundation Director John Hooker with a donation for $4,500. 

Three thousand dollars of the contribution will begin a newly endowed scholarship through the foundation. The beginning of this new endowment brings the total of HPA scholarships through LSCS to 18.

The remainder of the gift, $1,500, will provide an annual scholarship for the 2008-2009 academic year.  Graduates of Humble Independent School District may apply for any of the HPA scholarships at LSC-Kingwood.

“As an association over the years we have provided support for the students of Humble High School by providing lifetime scholarships to students through LSCS,” said Jim Hammock, HPA president. 

HPA is the single largest contributor to the foundation. Funding for scholarships is raised by HPA through its annual crawfish boil, softball tournaments and a variety of other fundraisers throughout the year. 

“While all police agencies ‘serve the public,’ the Humble Police Association continues to lead well beyond the norm,” said Hooker.

 “We remain extremely grateful to their commitment to their community, the foundation and Lone Star College System,” he said. 

The Humble Police Association is a non-profit organization whose mission is to sponsor city youth programs, provide college scholarships to students, maintain a benevolence fund for fallen officers, and help support officers and members who need immediate financial assistance due to dire medical needs.

Lone Star College System consists of five colleges, including LSC-CyFair, LSC-Kingwood, LSC-Montgomery, LSC-North Harris, and LSC-Tomball, six centers and LSC-University Center.
